Studies & Analyses

To meet the needs of our citizens, protect our working lands, and ensure that the region grows responsibly, PlanIt EAST is implementing a Regional Plan for Sustainable Development (RPSD).

The RPSD is based on a strong foundation of recent pilot studies, background data and research, projections, analysis of comparative communities, mapping and suitability analysis.  Central to the RPSD is the premise that future housing development (including affordable housing and fair housing choice), employment and education centers, transportation infrastructure, water infrastructure, and other investment decisions would be made or located with the goal of promoting a more sustainable future for the region where housing, jobs, educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities are easily accessible to area residents.

Through extensive public outreach and the facilitation of partnerships between regional and local interests, PlanIt EAST will provide decision-support resources and consensus solutions to existing decision-making bodies which will enable them to: address and harmonize critical land use and investment decisions; support cost effective and sustainable transportation and water infrastructure investments; protect and enhance the region’s traditional agricultural, forestry, waterfront and military-based economy; designate lands for conservation; and proactively consider risks from disasters and climate change.

Regional planning exercises will prioritize transportation, environment, and housing resources with a focus on regional equity.  The RPSD will promote sustainable development patterns, the success of which will be measured by their potential for environmental stewardship, economic prosperity, and equitable distribution of community resources.

This page contains a collection of published studies and analyses conducted by PlanIt EAST to enable sustainable growth, as well as some informative sources from external sources.  Studies are arranged by category: Regional Growth, Transportation, Housing, Quality of Life/Parks & Recreation, Healthcare & Social Services, and Energy.
